The Nix Film is Missing. But What Did CBS do with the Craven Film?

I got an email today from a JFK researcher named Wes Haddon. He sent me some frames (one pictured above) from the Cravens film. If you’re not aware, Tom Craven was in the press car of the JFK motorcade and his footage of the assassination is inexplicably missing or as Mr. Haddon says, ” The motivation and obligation CBS had to show Craven’s missing scenes and their subsequent decision to cut them out of the record
is the biggest mystery of the photographic record for me.” Of course, the missing Nix film is the biggest mystery to me, but this one can be added as well.

Gayle! Kudos for this article on the Cravens film!!! How did I ever miss this?! Must've been because Thanksgiving was approaching or something. This is the only article i know of that mentions the missing Craven film besides the old article by Richard Sprague, and attention to it was sorely needed! As you know, I've long wondered about the Craven film and where it went. Of course, the Nix film is missing but at the least most people know about it and have known about it for years. Craven's film has been so completely vanished that most people haven't even heard of it, or him - even people in the research community. God only knows what his film captured that they didn't want us to see. Craven was in Camera Car #1 along with 2 other cameramen, Wiegman and Thomas "0llie" Atkins*-United States Navy, White House color movie. His film, or most of it, has been disappeared too. His film may have captured important scenes down Houston and Elm too. His camera in particular was a high quality video camera and the color footage would have been spectacular. This is great to see a few frames from the film - I've never seen them before! But where is the rest of it?! Who is Wes Haddon and where did he get these frames? Would be great to know more. This brings up so many new questions. Thanks again for bringing some attention to this!

Like much of the visual evidence connected with the JFK case, it appears that this film has been shelved as well, and if it did eventually emerge, I would imagine that it would be very poor from a standpoint of conveying any new or interesting information. This sort of thing has always been one of the clearest indicators of widespread high-level tampering of evidence, which I would imagine would constitute a felony within the US in usual circumstances. Just trace the movements of such films and photographs, and it would appear that few, if any, did not fall foul to alteration, editing, damage or destruction. However, who knows?...maybe an unaltered copy does still exist....we can only hope....I do feel that unaltered copies of the Orville Nix film remain in governmental hands....I don't think they could resist possessing a secret copy of anything....its just indicative of the governmental mind-set..."we have it, you don't, and even if we did admit it, you can't see it". Let's keep our fingers crossed with all of the evidence in this case...you just never know who might let something slip out.....
