Many people who believe that Lee Harvey Oswald was the Lone Assassin in the death of JFK like to argue that no witnesses have ever changed their stories over the years. I would submit this evidence, a book from Dallas Police Chief Jesse Curry written in 1969. If you can find it at the Half-Price Bookstore or at a garage sale snap it up! I say this because I have also included in my book the story of J.M. Smith, a Dallas Police officer who was standing in front of the Texas School Book Depository but instead of running into the building, he ran past it to the area we now know as the grassy knoll. In his book, Jesse Curry quotes officer J.M. Smith:
“I was standing in the middle of Elm Street from the southeast curb of Elm and Houston Streets at the time of the shooting. I heard the shots and thought they were coming from bushes of the overpass. The statement is dated July 16, 1964. It’s curious that Officer Smith calls the infamous Grassy Knoll ‘bushes of the overpass’ at this early date. We forget, this was before a huge mythology was created surrounding the picket fence and the sloping knoll of grass, that juxtaposes Elm Street, on the northwest section of Dealey Plaza.
Orville Nix thought the shots came from there as well. Watch this blog for many more entries as to who heard shots from that area.
